IPCC honoured with the
2007 Nobel Peace Prize

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 1988. Its main objective was to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant to the understanding of human induced climate change, potential impacts of climate change and options for mitigation and adaptation. The IPCC has completed four assessment reports, developed methodology guidelines for national greenhouse gas inventories, special reports and technical papers. For more information on the IPCC, its activities and publications, please see the IPCC homepage.
The IPCC National Greenhouse Gas Inventories Programme was managed from 1991 by the IPCC WG I in close collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) until its transfer to the IPCC's Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (TFI) based in Japan in 1999.

IPCC Inventory Software

The IPCC Inventory software is now available. It is designed to implement the simplest Tier 1 methods in the 2006 IPCC Guidelines and as such is useful to users of all versions of the IPCC Guidelines. It is available free on CD or can be downloaded from here.

Development of Supplementary Guidance for Wetlands

Details on the development of the "2013 Supplement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories: Wetlands" can be found here.

The IPCC Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories is now inviting experts to review the first order draft of this new guidance on estimating anthropogenic emissions and removals from wetlands and organic soils. The first order draft will be open for expert review for 8 weeks starting on 16 April 2012 and will remain open until 11 June 2012.

In order to be thoroughly reviewed,  it needs to be examined by a wide range of inventory compilers and experts in the IPCC Guidelines as well as wetlands and soil experts.

If you can assist us with the review of all or part of this document please register at
http://www.ipcc-nggip.iges.or.jp/forms/wetlandsreview_registration.html and complete the short form there. When the review starts you will be sent details on how to download the first order draft and how to submit comments

If you have any difficulties with this please visit http://www.ipcc-nggip.iges.or.jp/home/wetlands_er_fod.html  to obtain a registration form.
